Game Review: Saints vs. Seahawks

Ok. I’ve swallowed my pride, wiped away my Alabama sized tears, and moved on from the debacle that was Monday night. That was the most embarrassing loss of the Brees/Payton era, the whole team laid an egg. It almost seemed like the lone touchdown by Jimmy Graham was a fluke. The Seahawks just dominated the Saints and exposed the defenses biggest weakness, the secondary. The Saints were a top 10 defense before the game started, but once that first Seattle drive kicked off they looked like a high school JV team in the secondary.

Maybe that’s where the Saints need to focus their draft for next offseason. CB Jason Verrett from TCU and CB Bradley Roby from Ohio St. would be nice 1st round picks. 2nd round pick needs to be OLB Adrian Hubbard from Alabama, but I digress. Offensively, I think the Saints needed to establish the run a lot better. I was in favor of showcasing Khiry Robinson this game to go against the almost 46-defense look of the Seahawks. The Seahawks deliberately walked down S Kam Chancellor to linebacker depth to shut down the threat of the run.

Regardless, the Saints were completely dominated in every facet of the game and Seattle looked like world beaters every step of the way. Now the Saints get ready for a red hot Carolina Panthers team which they have to play two out of the next three weeks. Let’s see if the coaching staff can come up with something to slow down Cam Newton, Steve Smith and that running game.
